For Good
Krista grew-up with gardening and It was just a matter of time that the metaphorical “Kiki’s Garden” would blossom into an actual garden to provide sustenance to neighbors in need. It’s a grand feeling to celebrate Krista’s life by creating Kiki’s Garden for Good… the program that honors Krista’s love of gardening. Being close to nature was an essential part of her being. She was, after all , born under the earth sign, Taurus, and moved with her “back to the land” parents from their performing days in NYC to the little homestead in Exeter when just one year old. Her sand box was right there in the first garden, and by the age of 4, she could identify all the veggies, herbs, and flowers grown on the little homestead. As she grew into adulthood, there was never a Spring without her announcing, “It’s time to plant the garden!” Her windowsills were always full of seedlings. Planting too much was seriously intentional so there would always be more than enough to share.
Since 2023, The Garden For Good has produced over 4500 pounds of fresh vegetables for our neighbors in need. All the produce is distributed locally to the Exeter Food Pantry, the North Kingstown Food Pantry, RICAN and the Johnny Cake Center.
Food insecurity is an ever-present issue. It was one of Krista’s concerns, and why she chose “Feed The Children” as her favorite charity. To continue that spirit of concern and generosity, we seed good deeds in her absence. We have the capacity and initiative. With cooperation from Mother Nature and help from volunteers who generously donate their time, we are hopeful to increase yields of fresh cucumbers, tomatoes, peppers, beans, herbs, summer and winter squash… All grown with love in Kiki’s Garden For Good. Abbondanza!
